Priscilla Mashego is a counselor and gender activist with a B.A in Human Sciences. While working as a pre-school teacher and principal in Johannesburg she first became aware of the extent of violence and sexual abuse within families and this awareness grew into a commitment to help people in the community affected in this way. While a volunteer at the TVEP (Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Project) shelter for abused women at Acornhoek in Mpumalanga, she received extensive training in trauma debriefing for abused women and attended workshops dealing with issues related to gender based violence and victim empowerment. She subsequently worked as a counselor at the TVEP and participated in a number of community outreach programs. Priscilla began working for the TLAC as a counselor at the Acornhoek satellite office in 2007.
