Shereen Usdin is a medical doctor and a health and development communication specialist. She holds a Masters degree in Public Health from Harvard University and helped establish the Soul City Institute for Health and Development, an internationally acclaimed NGO established to impact on health and development in South and Southern Africa. She has worked for many years in the field of public health, with a focus on HIV and AIDS, gender, health and human rights. She is author of the No Nonsense Guide to HIV and AIDS, published by Verso Press and the New Internationalist. In 2004 she was awarded the Shoprite/Checkers Woman of the Year Award for her contributions to public health and in 2006, was 1 of 4 winners of the Gordon Institute of Business Science's Social Entrepreneurs of the Year Award.
