Women's Sector Summit on the HIV and AIDS and STI Strategic Plan (March 2007) |

The Women’s Sector Summit took place on 8 and 9 March in Johannesburg.
The summit brought together over 170 women from all over the country to discuss and debate the National Strategic Plan 2007 – 2011. The NSP will guide the government’s response to HIV and AIDS for the next five years. The summit was formally opened by the Deputy Minister of Health who spoke of the important role that women had played in the struggle against apartheid and the role that they were playing in the struggle against the pandemic. Presentations were also made by Professor Helen Rees of the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit, and Johanna Ncala, a young woman living with HIV and a member of the Treatment Act Campaign.The summit also discussed the re-structuring of the South African National AIDS Council, and elected representatives from the summit to represent the women’s sector on SANAC.
